Day and Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff) Review: Is it the Menstrual Cup for You?
Low User-Ratings on Amazon
Let’s consider the Day + Knight (Ruby Cup Knockoff)and whether or not it’s a top-quality cup. Or, if there are better period cups on the market today.
Questionable Marketing Tactics
The thing we hate most about the Day and Night menstrual cup is the questioning marketing tactics they employ. In their product description, they use “Ruby Cup” and “Mooncup,” when in fact they are not these menstrual cups at all. Not even close! The Ruby Cup and MoonCup are top-quality menstrual cups and this one is a very, very cheap knockoff product that should be avoided. Check out the real reviews of these two popular cups here:
Day and Night Versions
One of the unusual things about the Day and Night cup is that it’s only sold in a 2-pack, with a day, and night version. We’re not sure why anyone would need to differentiate between the two. Most people use a single menstrual cup for their entire cycle. There truly is no need to have two menstrual cups. Most menstrual cups last for at least two years, so it doesn’t even make sense to save one for “later.”
Let’s look at the pros and cons of the Day + Night Menstrual Cup and try to figure out why user ratings are so low on Amazon.
Day + Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff) Sizes
The Day + Night Menstrual Cup is a but unusual in the menstrual cup world in that they only offer one size. Most other companies such as the Lunette Cup, or Moon Cup offer at least two sizes-a small one for pre-childbirth, and a larger one for post-childbirth.
The one size that they do offer is very large! Here are the dimensions:
Diameter: 45 mm, Length: 68 mm, Capacity: 34 ml.
The 34 ml capacity is higher than the standard 30 ml. This may make it an excellent choice for people with a heavy period. When paired with something like a reusable organic cotton pad, they may be able to make it through the night without having to get up to deal with a “situation!”
The diameter at 45 mm, and the length at 68 mm are on the larger end of average. It’s strange that Day + Night doesn’t offer a smaller size menstrual cup-this one is comparable to the “large” or “extra-large” version of the other cups on the market today. It will most certainly not be suitable for a teenager, or smaller person, especially if they haven’t given birth vaginally.
Day + Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff) Pros
- Pliable and soft. Some people prefer this style of cup and find it easier to insert and remove.
Day + Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff) Cons
- Extremely low user ratings on Amazon
- Only 1 size (large!). We find it so strange that the company would offer a “day” and “night” version instead of two separate sizes.
- The tip is scratchy and uncomfortable for some people
- Some sketchy marketing tactics. The company sometimes uses things like “MoonCup,” “Ruby Cup, or “Diva Cup” on their product description on Amazon. People think this is what they’re ordering when it’s a cheap knock-off. Buyer beware!
- Sold in a 2-pack. Most people need only 1 menstrual cup.
- Made in China
- Seams that are not flat. Some people mention being able to feel them when inside.
What People are Saying about the Day and Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff)
“The tab on the stem for removal is extremely uncomfortable once it’s inside me. It scratches and irritates my skin that touches it.”
” I only use one of them–I’m not really sure why they would sell two together in a package. The second one is sitting in my cabinet unopened.”
“The phrasing in the instructions is quite awkward, like they weren’t written by a native English speaker. Despite that, it’s a decent cup.”
Get the Day + Night Menstrual Cup
Because this knockoff menstrual cup is not as popular as something like the Diva Cup, it can be hard to find it in your local stores. The best place to get it is on Amazon. However, it’s not really recommended! You’d be better off spending your money on a top-quality menstrual cup with upfront marketing tactics! Check it out here, if you must:
Day + Night Menstrual Cup vs. Diva Cup
When you compare the Diva Cup to this knockoff menstrual cup, the Diva Cup comes out a clear winner. The Diva Cup is a top-quality cup made in Canada from the highest quality medical grade silicone. It comes in two sizes. The larger Diva Cup is approximately the same size as the Day + Night Cup. The smaller Diva Cup is suitable for people who haven’t given birth vaginally, teenagers or those under 30.
In terms of firmness, the Diva Cup is much stiffer. Once inside your vaginal canal, it should just “pop” open fully. If it doesn’t, you have to give it a turn to get it to do that. Once it opens fully and suctions to your vaginal canal walls, there shouldn’t be any leaking.
However, this knockoff menstrual cup is a much softer cup. While some people prefer this, most find that the softer cups are more difficult to insert, and also to prevent them from leaking. The Day + Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff), with its prominent seams, manages to negate the one advantage to soft cups-that they feel comfortable once inside of you! People on Amazon commented that this menstrual cup is very uncomfortable.

Day + Night Menstrual Cup vs. The Actual Ruby Cup
The company employs some sketchy marketing tactics and often passes itself off as a “Ruby Cup.” However, there certainly is no comparison so it’s really a case of buyer beware. The Ruby Cup is a legit company that makes a quality product.
Committed to Change
The thing we love best about them is that they’re committed to making a positive change in the world. For every Ruby Cup that they sell, they donate one cup to a person in need. This has the potential to change the world for the better and we love it here at Reusable Menstrual Cups!
About the Ruby Cup
In terms of the actual cup, it’s a far better option than this Day and Night one. It comes in two sizes-a small and a large, and we like the fact that there is actually a difference between the two. Some of the other companies have two sizes, but they’re actually both just average size.
A Nice Stiffness
People seem to like the stiffness of it-it’s stiff enough that it opens easily once inside you. However, it’s not so firm that it feels uncomfortable. Nicely done Ruby Cup!

The Takeaway on the Day + Night (Ruby Cup Knockoff)
In terms of quality, fit, size choices, etc., the Day + Night Cup just doesn’t measure up. The extremely low average user rating on Amazon (3.5/5) is certainly proof that it’s not great. It’s a cheap cup, manufactured in China that you’d probably do well to avoid. There are a ton of higher-quality cups that will work much better for you. Some of our favourite cups can be found here:
Consider the Lena Cup Instead
Or, if you’re looking for a quick-buy, check out our top-rated cup, the Lena Cup. Despite being a relative newcomer to the period cup world, it’s here to stay. It’s cheaper than some of the older, more established menstrual cups, but the quality and fit is comparable.
The Lena Cup is manufactured in the USA from medical grade silicone. Check out the Lena Cup for yourself on Amazon:
