The Athena Club is very similar, except that they send tampons. Now, we don’t think this is a bad thing, but really, isn’t it quite easy to just pick up tampons when you buy groceries each week? We personally never find ourselves running out.
We’re certainly not willing to pay extra for someone to deliver Athena Tampons to our door. Maybe you are? In this case, keep on reading for all the details and whether or not this tampon subscription is right for you, and your budget.
Is there Anything Special about Athena Club Tampons?
Let’s talk about the tampons themselves. Is there anything special about them that would warrant spending more money on them than just buying some at the local shop.
Athena Club sells two kinds of tampons. Both of them are FDA compliant, made in Europe (Germany) and packaged in the USA. They’re currently only available in the USA.
Premium Athena Tampons

Let’s compare Athena Club tampons to the prices you can find for tampons on Amazon.
Premium Athena Tampons vs. Tampax
The premium tampons seem quite similar to a regular box of Tampax. We found them as low as a $0.15 per tampon, if you buy in bulk (2+ boxes).
Athena Club premium tampons are priced at $0.36 per tampon. Per tampon, that’s $0.21 more expensive.
Organic Athena Tampons vs. Cora Organic
We found a variety pack of Cora Organic Tampons (regular/super) for $0.34 per tampon if you buy a 2-pack.
Athena Club organic tampons cost $0.42 per tampon. That’s $0.08 more than ordering organic tampons from Amazon.
Athena Club Pricing: The Takeaway
If you buy regular tampons, then the Athena Club may not be for you. They are $0.21 more expensive than buying tampons from Amazon, or a discount store like Wal Mart.
If you use 5 tampons per day, that’s $1 more for each day that you have your period. Assuming a period length of 5 days, that’s almost $60 a year for the convenience of having tampons delivered to your door.
What about organic tampons? They margin is much smaller, at less than 10 cents. In this case, you might want to opt for the convenience of having them delivered, because the difference over a year is pretty marginal.

Free Tampons for Life?
The company has a button on their website that says “free tampons for life.” Awesome, right?
We checked it out and the only catch is that you need to get 12 friends to join every year for the rest of your menstruating life. Not so easy, right? We HATE deceptive marketing practices like this and wish that companies would be more up-front.
The way it works is that you get a free order of tampons for every person who signs up through you. Good luck with that, although we do like a company that has refer a friend programs like this.

The Takeaway on the Athena Club Tampon Subscription
The Athena Club is perfect for people who constantly find themselves running out of tampons. Our guess is that most people don’t really have this problem though, and that the company is actually marketing to a group of people who don’t really exist!
As far as the tampons themselves, they do seem to be of good quality. However, the “premium” ones are very expensive when you compare them to regular Tampax tampons, and they don’t actually seem that much different from them.
The organic Athena Club tampons are more affordable, and if you use these kind, you may be willing to pay for the convenience of having them delivered to your door each month.
If you like them, you’ll want to tell your friends. The company has a refer a friend program that can get you free tampons.

If you’re looking for a tampon subscription, two of the top options are Cora and Athena Club.
First Month Free
One thing we love about Cora Tampons is that the first month is free. You just have to pay a low price for shipping and you’ll get your trial box. It’s certainly a good way to check out a product before making a commitment!
Athena Club? Not so much. You’ll have to pay for the full package from your first month.
Cora Tampons vs Athena Club: Pricing
As far as pricing goes, Athena Club tampons come out $0.42 per tampon when delivered.
What about Cora? They come out to around $0.72 per tampon. It’s hard to tell from their website, but shipping may be in addition to this.
Clearly Athena Club is the winner when it comes to pricing. And, Cora is not that clear about their pricing beyond the first month where you get a free trial.
Other Products Besides Tampons
Where Cora Tampons really have the edge is the range of products that they offer. They have applicator, and non-applicator tampons, as well as pads and pantyliners. All are available via subscription.
Cora Tampons vs Athena Club Tampons? The Takeaway
If you’re looking for a tampon subscription, then either of these options should work well for you. Cora is slightly more expensive when delivered (you can buy their products more cheaply on Amazon). However, they also come with a wider range of options in terms of feminine hygiene products.
For our money, we’re still going to pick up tampons at the store, or on Amazon and save ourselves a few bucks!
