The Lily Cup is manufactured in Sweden from top-quality, medical-grade silicone. We LOVE period cups manufactured in Europe because they have a reputation for being safe products that you should feel good about putting into your body.
The company makes two versions of their period cup, the regular Lily Cup that we’re talking about here, and a collapsible version. See: Lily Cup Compact for more details about this model.
While the collapsible version is pretty cool (it’s the only one that we know of), it actually doesn’t work that well and we don’t really recommend it.

Let’s get back to the regular Lily Cup! Overall, the shape of it is quite unusual, and it’s also very soft. For these reasons, many people seem to have a hard time inserting if, and getting it to not leak.
However, if you’re looking for a very large diameter menstrual cup, it’s definitely one to consider. Or, if you’re looking for a very soft menstrual cup because you found something like the Diva Cup too stiff and uncomfortable for you.

If there is one menstrual cup, or period cup that you’ve heard of before, it’s probably the Diva Cup. It’s made in Canada from medical grade silicone and it’s one of the oldest, and most popular menstrual cups in the world.
The Diva Cup is often the first cup that people start with, and many people end up sticking with it for the rest of their lives. It really is that good!
We often recommend the Diva Cup for beginners because everything about it is “average.” The length, diameter, capacity and stiffness fall into the middle of each category. It’s not too stiff that it will feel uncomfortable, but it’s not so soft that it’s difficult to insert.
In short, it’s an excellent cup at a very reasonable price and most people that try it are pretty happy with it. If you take a look at the reviews over on Amazon, you’ll find that most of the negative ones are not about the specific product, but about period cups in general.

Lily Cup vs Diva Cup Comparison Chart
In terms of sizing, there isn’t that much difference between the Lily Cup and the Diva Cup. The major thing is the length of the cup. Both sizes of Diva Cup come in at 70 mm, while the Lily Cup has a length of 78 mm.
This makes the Lily Cup one of the longest menstrual cups. If you have a high cervix, you may want to consider this one because removing your cup will be easier. Although you should remove a cup by grasping the base, you may have to pull the stem until you can reach that part of the cup, if it’s travelled high up into your vaginal canal.
By having a longer cup, the stem (and the base) will be more accessible. This is particularly helpful in the morning, because most menstrual cups move higher up in the vaginal canal overnight when gravity isn’t an issue.
Diva Cup vs Lily Cup Design
As you can see from the pictures of these two popular menstrual cup brands, the design is quite different. The Diva Cup has quite a distinct cone and then a separate stem. The Lily Cup has almost no distinction between the cone and stem.
One negative to the Lily Cup in this regard is that it’s not really possible to cut the stem off if you have a low cervix and want a shorter cup.
You can, however, cut the stem off the Diva Cup quite easily and make it significantly shorter. It’s also possible to cut the stem off, and turn the Diva Cup inside out, which makes it even shorter. Due to the design of the Lily Cup, this isn’t possible.
Lily Cup vs Diva Cup: Pricing
Prices on places like Amazon vary considerably, so it’s hard to give you specifics about this. But, take a look at our comparison chart above for up to date prices. In general, the Lily Cup is around $5-10 more expensive than the Diva Cup.

Lily Cup or Diva Cup: Which one is Best for a Beginner?
If you’re looking for your first menstrual cup and are trying to decide between the Diva Cup and the Lily Cup, then you might be wondering which one is best for you. It’s an important question!
In general, we recommend an average-firm menstrual cup for a beginner. This is because these cups will pop open pretty easily once you place then inside you. The downside is that some people can find them a little bit uncomfortable, although this is quite rare.
Keeping this in mind, the average firmness Diva Cup is probably a better pick. Once you fold it and place it inside your vagina, it’ll just pop open pretty easily.
The softer Lily Cup will sometimes do this, but you may have to fiddle around with it a little bit. Some beginners may find this a bit annoying and too much hassle.
The choice is yours, but we’d recommend a beginner stick with the Diva Cup.
Diva Cup vs Lily Cup: Which one is the Winner?
We’ve looked at lots of variables to help you decide which one is the right menstrual cup for you, the Lily Cup or the Diva Cup. In most categories, the Diva Cup is the winner.
It’s cheaper, has better reviews, is great for beginners, and can be modified if you have a low-medium cervix.
You might want to consider the Lily Cup if you have a very high cervix and are looking for a longer menstrual cup.
But overall, we give our solid recommendation to the Diva Cup! You can check out this popular menstrual cup for yourself over on Amazon:

Lily Cup or Diva Cup with an IUD?
If you have an IUD, you probably want to know whether or not either of these cups are compatible with it. In general, any of the traditional menstrual cups that fit low in the vaginal canal, including the Diva Cup or Lily Cup will work well with an IUD.
The key is to make sure there’s space between your cervix where the strings are and the top of the menstrual cup. Keeping this in mind, the slightly shorter Diva Cup may be a better choice for you if you want to use it with an IUD.
However, if you have a low cervix, and want to use a menstrual cup with an IUD neither the Diva Cup, nor the Lily Cup will work that well for you. You should opt for a shorter menstrual cup and any of these low cervix ones would make a nice pick for you.
