An Introduction Eco-Friendly Incontinence Products

If you experience incontinence, there are a wide range of options available to you in terms of protection. You probably already know about the disposable options that are out there.

But, we’re going to give you the rundown on our top picks for eco-friendly incontinence products that’ll help prevent embarrassing leaks, while saving the Earth. The good news is that going green will also save you a ton of money over the medium to long-term.

We’ll give you some details, as well as our top recommendations for the following products:

  • Reusable cloth pads
  • Reusable cloth pantyliners
  • Period panties
  • Organic disposable pads
  • Menstrual Cup
  • Modibodi Pee-Proof Swimwear

Let’s Talk Incontinence

#1: Reusable Cloth Pads

Looking for eco-friendly incontinence pads? Look no further than these ones!

There are a lot of reasons why you might not want to use disposable pads for incontinence issues. They include:

  • Not great for the environment. They’re made largely from non-biodegradable plastic.
  • Expensive. This is particularly true if you have to wear heavy ones every single day.
  • Not great for your health. They often contain trace amounts of toxic chemicals in them.

A better option is reusable cloth pads. They can be worn just like disposables, but when you’re done with them, you just throw them in the wash with your regular laundry.

Although they do cost a bit more up-front, you’ll potentially save thousands of dollars over the course of your lifetime by making the switch. This is even more true for incontinence than for your period because you’ll probably be using them every single day.

Next up on our list of the best eco-friendly incontinence products are reusable cloth pantyliners. They’re exactly like they sound: just like normal panty liners, but they’re made from cloth instead of plastic and cotton, which means that they’re reusable.

If you have very light incontinence, this may be all that you need. Disposable pantyliners can sometimes cause skin irritation. This is because of the trace amounts of toxic chemicals that are found in them from pesticides, as well as the manufacturing process.

It just makes sense to make the switch to a reusable option. Go green and save money at the same time!

#3: Period Panties

The next option for incontinence products that you might want to consider are period panties. There are two basic styles:

  • Not absorbent, but offer a leakproof layer.
  • Absorbent, similar to a pad, plus a leakproof layer.

Which one you get is really up to you. If you plan to also use something like a pad, then the first option would work well. All you really need is a bit of extra protection until you can get to the bathroom to change your soiled pad.

However, if you have light incontinence, then the second option may be all that you need. For full incontinence, this option won’t work that well and we don’t suggest trying it. Most period panties can absorb a bit of fluid, but not huge amounts.

#4: Organic Disposable Pads

If you’re looking for some eco friendly incontinence products, then you may want to consider going organic.

Next up on the list of incontinence products are organic disposables. You’re probably already familiar with these options, ranging from panty liners to heavy, overnight pads. These work fine in terms of how well they absorb fluid.

However, there are a couple of problems with them:

  • They are not great for people with allergies or sensitive skin.
  • They contain trace amounts of toxic chemicals, which aren’t great to be exposed to in large quantities.

That’s why it makes sense to switch to organics. They don’t contain any toxic chemicals in them, and many people with sensitive skin find that they have better results with them.

There’s more good news too! Most of the popular brands of organic pads are 100% biodegradable so are an eco-friendly option for incontinence issues.

Check out our top pick here: Organyc Organic Pads.

Why Make the Switch to Organic Pads?

#5: Menstrual Cup

The final incontinence product that we’re going to talk about are eco-friendly menstrual cups. They’re inserted into your vagina, so they will certainly not collect urine!

But, there are some reports that they can help to prevent stress incontinence. This is because they press against the vaginal canal wall, which is turn compresses the urethra a little bit. There are also similar reports of people using tampons for this purpose.

However, we STRONGLY recommend against using tampons not during your period for incontinence issues due to the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Menstrual cups come with a much smaller risk of TSS, and are also eco-friendly, and much cheaper over the long-term.

Menstrual Cups are also bigger than tampons and push more strongly against the vaginal canal walls, which might serve your purposes better if your goal is to prevent light incontinence.

(BONUS) #6: Modibodi Leakproof Swimwear

Modibodi Swimwear: Bikini

We’ve recently discovered a new product to add to the list, Modibodi Leakproof Bathing Suits. They absorb around 10 ml, around as much as a jumbo tampon.

If you have light incontinence issues, you were perhaps nervous about going to the pool, beach or waterpark, and then staying out of the water for too long. Worry no more! You can linger on the pool edge for far longer than previously possible.

Due to some innovative technology, Modibodi has done the almost impossible—design a swimsuit that absorbs fluid from you body, but not water from the outside.

There are two designs: bikini, and one-piece. They’re athletic, offer a decent amount of coverage, but are still quite stylish. Currently, both styles are available in only black, which we actually love. It looks just like a normal bathing suit, and who doesn’t look good in black?

Check them out here. Shipping is free on orders over $75 to USA and Canada. There’s also a 30-day, money-back guarantee if it’s your first Modibodi product:
